Spider Lightning Characterization: Integrating Optical, NLDN, and GLM Detection

چکیده
Here, we investigate the characteristics of spider lightning analyzing individual flashes as well overall electric storm system. From July to November 2022, optical camera systems captured visually spectacular in Southwest Florida. The aspects and activities discharges were analyzed by merging video images with flash data from National Detection Lightning Network (NLDN) Geostationary Mapper (GLM). Spider primarily occurred during later stages activity when there was a decrease count locations drifting apart. propagation path discharge predominantly luminous exhibited an extended duration, ranging 300 ms 1720 ms, most remaining continuously illuminated. Occasionally, observed produced cloud-to-ground (CG) along their paths. This study represents first attempt utilize images, NLDN, GLM correlation between visual events detection networks. These combined datasets facilitated characterization discharges.

We infer peak currents from radiation electric field peaks of 48 positive return strokes acquired at the Lightning Observatory in Gainesville (LOG), Florida, in 2007-2008. In doing so, we use the transmission line model, NLDN-reported distances, and assumed return-stroke speed. From a similar analysis of negative first and subsequent strokes, it appears that the implied return-stroke speed in t...
متن کاملCharacterization of Lightning Electromagnetic
Characteristics of measured electric and magnetic fields generated by leaders and return strokes in lightning cloud-to-ground discharges are reviewed. The very close (within tens to hundreds of meters) lightning electromagnetic environment is discussed. Typical field waveforms at distances ranging from 10 m to 200 km are shown. Modeling of lightning return strokes as sources of electromagnetic ...

The North American Lightning Detection Network (NALDN) is a commercial lightning detection network composed of the U.S. National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN) and the Canadian Lightning Detection Network (CLDN). The NALDN was developed to provide lightning information by accurately detecting and locating most cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning strokes and a small fraction of discharges produce...
